I've got WinXP SP2 with all the latest MS updates and my USB 2.0
connections are very flaky.
The connection doesn't seem to stay up for more than a couple of
minutes, which means it's very hard to copy large files to my USB drive
and update my iPod with iTunes.

How are they powered, with an external
plug pack or from the USB connection ?
Ben Thomas...
|
The USB drive, Palm LifeDrive in fact, has external power, the iPod doesn't.
Rod Speed...
|
OK, the problem with that one will be elsewhere.
|
If power is the issue, it should only be a problem if multiple devices
are connected at the same time, no?
Rod Speed...
|
No, some devices take more power than some USB ports can provide.
Some devices have a pair of USB connectors so you can get
power from more than one USB port, particularly hard drives.
|

|
Yeah, looks like it isnt a power problem.
|
The iPod used to be fine, as did the Palm (which is fine on another
machine).
|
Many of the systems powered from a USB connection can
produce results like that, because they arent getting enough
power from the USB connection. A power USB hub can fix that.

|
Yes. But its unlikely to be your problem.

|
I'll try it and report back soon.

|
Will simply re-running the setup from my WinXP CD reinstall the USB
drivers or is there some other way?
Rod Speed...
Thanks for any advice.

Remove and reinstall the USB 2.0 drivers that came with the motherboard.
