Have video that says it's DIVX. When played in QT Player
with DIVX 5.2.2 codec installed, no audio.
I saw on videohelp.com that a bug in DIVX means MP3 audio
won't play. (Presume, therefore, this video might have MP3.
How to know?).
Per videohelp.com instructions, ran video through DIVX Dr.
and played it again. No change.
Played video using MPlayer. No change (Interesting thing:
video plays at half speed in MPlayer).
Tried VLC. No change.
How can I get this video to play with audio?

There are 3 "solutions" which can work
1) First of all, you can install latest 6.x version for 10.3.9+ from

Thanks. That fixed it.

You may report a bug to DivX, check brightness settings of Quicktime
(pro only?) or uninstall DivX and use "VLC" or "MPlayer". Uninstall is
optional of course but I don't like stuff I don't use hanging around in
deep system level.
I said about 6.x since you should never keep qt 7 non compatible 5.2.2
on your system.
Oh, they also have forums at Divx.com
BTW, I hope you uninstalled 5.2.2 running its installer (old mac
method) before installing 6

Sorry for reply again. If you will work with iMovie etc with DivX
encoded files, you should keep DivX 6 installed/updated.
Mplayer and VLC (of course) can't decode them for your application on the fly.

Another issue -- all DIVX movies seem to be very dark.
Light scenes are OK. The dark scenes are almost un-viewable

(no need to give your mail). DivX 5.2.2 is _not_ compatible with
Quicktime 7.x. I don't blame you for not reading 3 pixel words hidden
in site somewhere stating that fact :)
2) I suggest run the original installer of 5.2.2 first to "uninstall"
(drop down menu) and install 6.x. Or, you know what? Screw that. If
MPlayer and/or VLC can play, why bother?
3) If you mark the "tick" in Dr. DivX saying "decompress audio" and
also "make self contained movies" , the result file still does not play?
It should play, maybe there is really something wrong with the DivX
file itself.
BTW, if you decompress audio and "make self contained movie" it will
need like 5x space in addition to original file.
You should not keep DivX 5.2.2 installed in Quicktime 7 running OS X by
any reason. This is OS X, everything calls Quicktime Frameworks will
cause that buggy thing to load to memory, lower threads and could cause
problems.
Also I wonder, if 5.2.2 does not show you a window saying it is awfully
outdated and needs update, why the heck we grant them to contact Divx
networks in our firewalls?
