Hey all
I'm having trouble with a miniDV camcorder.
The timeline on all of my tapes are broken (it will go to about
00:20:20:20, for example, and then start from zero again). I've heard
that this is from recording something, watching it, and then recording
again just in front of where I stopped, as this makes it (the timeline)
start again. This however is not the problem. I'm using Adobe Premiere
Pro, and am doing a batch capture (I have limited access to the PC with
PremPro). The broken timeline obviously makes this impossible, as there
are duplicates of the same timecode, and this causes serious issues
when trying to capture. Now, my question is, does anyone know of a way
to fix the timeline - make it go from zero to full, instead of jumping
around?

While Scenalyzer is a great program, you can save yourself the $35 by
following proper shooting techniques.
Let the camcorder continue to run for a couple of seconds before
hitting the record button to pause it after you're finished the scene.
When you're playing a tape back, make note of where the scene stops.
Assume it's 00:12:34:43 for this example.
Rewind the tape again and stop it BEFORE it hits this mark, around
00:12:33:00, in this case.
When you switch back to record mode, the camcorder sees that there is
still active video (i.e., it reads the time code) and will continue
with the correct time.
BTW, this same method applies if you took the tape out of the camcorder
and are starting again on a different day/week/month.
Now you see the reason for a slight amount of overshooting :-)
